According to district officials, the boat, which allegedly had more than 30 passengers on board, reportedly sank near an estuary close to the Thoovaltheeram beach in the Tanur area about 7:30 pm on Sunday. Rescue operations are still ongoing.

1. On Monday morning, the Chetak helicopter of the Indian Navy was requested to assist with the search and rescue operation. According to the officials, 10 additional individuals have been saved and 22 people have died. Five individuals utilised swimming to reach the coast, they proceeded.

2. When Kerala's state minister Pinarayi Vijayan arrived, the disaster survivors were receiving medical care at Taluk Hospital in the Malappuram district. The CM tweeted his condolences for the casualties in the incident: "Deeply saddened by the tragic death toll in the Tanur boat accident in Malappuram. The rescue operations are being directed by Cabinet Ministers, and the District administration has been given instructions to properly coordinate them. 

3. After the incident, Veena George, Kerala's health minister, summoned a hasty meeting of the state health department and gave the staff directives to ensure better treatment for the injured. Additionally, she asked that the post-mortem process be sped up.

4. The state government agreed to provide the deceased's family Rs. 10 lakh in compensation and initiated a legal probe into the occurrence.

5. In addition to expressing condolences for the tragedy's fatalities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 2 lakh ex-gratia for each of the departed's heirs. "I'm shocked by the number of people who died in the boat disaster in Malappuram, Kerala. We send our condolences to the departed's families. He tweeted that the PMNRF will provide each deceased person's next of kin a two lakh rupee ex-gratia payout.
