India's commerce with Russia has increased in the wake of the situation in Ukraine, according to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, who also emphasised that the interests of the Indian people must come first in all of the nation's diplomatic interactions.

The External Affairs Minister said that Western nations were Russia's primary economic partners in explaining the dramatic shift in trade relations. After the unrest in Ukraine, that route was blocked. Russia is currently moving closer to Asia. Before the turmoil in Ukraine, our commerce was somewhere between 12 and 14 billion dollars; this year, it was 40 billion.
"Therefore, you will see the partnering of the Asian economies. I believe we shouldn't be very concerned with what they are doing with other nations. As long as it serves the interests of the Indian people, we should maintain our current relationship with Russia, Dr. Jaishankar stated in a video posted by the news agency ANI.
